Susanne Junker
Susanne Junker est une artiste, qui s’exprime principalement à travers la photographie. Née en Allemagne, elle vit et travaille à Paris.
Ancienne mannequin, elle s'affranchit les exigences de perfection dont elle a fait l’objet avec force, humour, audace et intégrité. Susanne utilise son corps et ceux de ses modèles comme des toiles pour interpréter des thèmes sociaux autour de l’identité et le féminisme. Elle embrasse les thèmes de l'identification de genre, de l'objectivation des femmes et de l'utilisation de la sexualité dans les médias.
Son travail, exposé dans le monde entier, a donné lieu en 2025 à une grande rétrospective au musée d’Augsburg, en Allemagne, “So What!”.
Susanne Junker is an artist with focus on photography. Born 1973 in Germany, she lives and works in Paris, France after spending a decade in Shanghai where she founded and directed the artist run stage候台BACK. Autodidact, her work concentrates on identity and femininity.
Practicing observation of herself since early childhood, Susanne has used her own body as a canvas for interpretation of social themes, feminist and female behaviour and her own struggle with "24/7 demanded perfection" as a model in the 90ies. Since then, she embraced themes of gender identification, the objectivisation of women and the use of sexuality in media via photography, video, drawing and performance.
Her work, exhibited around the world, was the subject of a major retrospective in 2025 at the Augsburg Museum in Germany, titled “So What!”.
